Réflexions, démarche

Amanda dessine depuis son enfance, gagnant plusieurs concours d’art. Au Collège de Croydon, Angleterre, elle a étudié le Design d’Eclairage des Productions Théâtrales ou elle obtint une Distinction comme designer décernée par le Directeur du Collège : M. Francis Read.

Apres plusieurs années comme désigner d’éclairage théâtral à Londres, Amanda s’oriente vers le domaine de l’éclairage architectural d’où son point de vue architectural représenté dans ses dessins. Amanda peint toujours avec ce sens de la lumière et a continué dans cette discipline en créant son entreprise avec son mari, ingénieur électrique, en 1994. Plusieurs réalisations design à son actif pour Les Bains Romains, Bath, Angleterre ; plusieurs hôtels à Euro Disney ; Galerie d’Art, Manchester et le grand magasin à Londres, Fortnum et Mason.

Pendant sa carrière de designer, Amanda continue à dessiner et peindre, expose en Angleterre et en France. Elle utilise aussi bien la plume pour les dessins, le pastel ,les collages, mais son médium préféré reste l’huile.

Inspirée par le jeu de la lumière sur les paysages du Perigord, Amanda attrape l’essence de la localité. Par contraste des couleurs lumineuses des toitures rouges et des tournesols jaunes, ses intérieurs, frais et silencieux, apaisent avec une inquiétante immobilité, qui suggère une absence momentanée. Ses perspectives s’orientent vers l’exploration du sujet solitaire ou isolé dans un plus grand paysage ; bâtiment, figure, contenu dans un espace illimité, infini, avec lequel on peut avoir une action réciproque, mais aussi avec lequel on peut n’avoir pas de contrôle. 

Récemment, Amanda a ouvert son atelier-galerie, avec une autre artiste, Hélène Buttling, Galerie Fontaine au Perroquet Vert, à Chalais, en Charente. Elle y expose ses œuvres en permanence

Amanda mène en parallèle son travail dans le domaine de la peinture, de l’éclairage architectural, fait des murales sur commande, donne des cours de peinture à l’’huile

After many years working in London’s theatrical West End, Amanda moved into the field of architectural lighting design, where her experience in the theatre put an invaluable slant on her designs. Amanda viewed her work as ‘painting with light’ and continued in this field, setting up her own business with her electrical engineering husband, Anthony Cork, in 1994. Her lighting credits include designs for the Roman Baths at Bath, various hotels at Euro Disney, Manchester City Art Gallery and Fortnum and Mason in London.

Throughout her career, she has continued drawing and painting, mainly with private commissions and has contributed to various exhibitions in both England and France. She works in various mediums including pen and ink, pastel and collage, but spends the majority of her time working in oils.

Inspired by the play of light on the Perigord landscape, Amanda captures the essence of the local area. In contrast to the bright colours of red roofs and sunflowers, her cool silent interiors appear to have an eerie stillness that suggests a momentary absence. Her recent projects explore the lone subject within a larger landscape; building, figure, contained within an infinite space with which they can interact, but over which one has no control.

Amanda has recently opened her own gallery, with fellow artist Helene Buttling, Galerie Fontaine at Le Perroquet Vert, in the small market town of Chalais in the Charente. Here her work is on permanent display alongside rolling exhibitions of local artists from the Charente and Dordogne.

Amanda continues to work in the field of lighting design, executes murals on commission, teaches oil painting and spends much of her nocturnal hours painting into the small hours.
