Dorothy Bart was born
in Leeds, England, and started her professional life as an actressand
singer in theatre and television.
A Holiday in France with a partner changed her direction. Driving
back to England viathe Dordogne, an ancient derelict farmhouse reached
out and claimed them as it’s new owners. The love affair with
France, which had started in her teens, became a challenge and an
adventure. Throughout her life she had always painted and moving
to live in Dordogne enabled her to fulfil a desire to do so full
time.
The artist’s work has encompassed a varied range of media.
She has produced a most successful series of silkscreen prints that
have sold throughout the world and has continued to work, with her
own personal vision, in oils, acrylic and watercolour.
In 1986 she started an annual summer exhibition called ‘Artshow’
which took place in her studio, and which also showed the work of
other professional artist and sculptors.
This became very successful and ran for 20 years, until 2005. The
last 3 years of Artshow took place at the ‘Galerie Verticalle’
in Verteillac, which she founded and designed.
She has had many solo exhibitions in galleries in England, France,
Holland and Australia,
and has work in collections all over the world.
